ADOPTION
Even with today's advanced medical technologies, many individuals struggle to reach their dreams of parenthood. Private adoption is a wonderful alternative. We are serving at Boynton Beach, FL.
Adoption has changed dramatically in the past twenty years. Many adoptive parents and birth parents are comfortable meeting and sharing information prior to a child's birth, making everyone feel more at ease. Taking into consideration this degree of openness, an adoptive "match" is made.
Hausmann & Hickman, P.A. handles placements in Florida as well as other states, in compliance with Interstate Compact Rules. Through advertisements and networking with other professionals, we currently handle over sixty adoptions each year. Fees and costs are determined on a case by case basis.
Adoptions vary as widely as the children involved. Each placement is personally made, with consideration for the emotional, financial and other special needs and desires of all parties.
SURROGACY
Through the miracles of modern science and emerging trends in Florida laws, surrogacy provides infertile couples the option of raising their own biological children. The surrogacy relationship is a legal and biological one formed when a volunteer mother ("carrier") agrees to carry a child for a married ("commissioning") couple. Florida is one of a small number of states that maintains specific statutory provisions for Gestational and Traditional Surrogacy.
Hausmann & Hickman, P.A. carefully screens all potential surrogates and families.
The attorneys personally interview and consult with all parties to the surrogacy agreement, gather historical medical data and commission psychological evaluations in an effort to obtain a successful match.
Commissioning couples enjoy the option of selecting their surrogate from a list of existing applicants or may individually seek out their surrogate. All surrogates receive compensation for living and travel, lost wages, disability/life insurance coverage, and other related expenses which are allocated within the Surrogacy Agreement. Uncovered medical expenses are paid by the commissioning couple and counseling is encouraged for all parties

There is a wide variety of waiting periods dependent upon a host of controllable and non-controllable factors. Generally, the average waiting period to be matched with a birth mother expecting a Caucasian child is 9 - 18 months, and a bi-racial child is 6 - 18 months. Waits can be dramatically shorter or longer depending on individual situations and client's specified parameters for adoption such as gender preference, age of adoptive parent, number of children in family, financial limitations, and state of residence of adoptive parents.
A home study is an independent investigation to verify your suitability as adoptive parents. A home study includes criminal and child abuse clearances, is valid for one year, and can be updated. If you need assistance in obtaining a home study, please advise our office.
Families that have a disrupted placement immediately go to the top of the waiting list.
A lengthy family, social and medical history compiled by the birth mother, and sometimes the birth father. Following your match, we will also obtain medical records from the OB/GYN and from the hospital as soon as practical given the doctor or hospital's cooperation. If requested, we can obtain criminal records or other third party documents. We cannot guarantee the health or medical history of the baby, but will keep you advised of the birth mother's medical condition as it is reported to our office.
The birth mother usually makes a "prospective family list" that identifies the qualities important to her in an adoptive family. She is then presented with families who have applied to our office and completed personal profiles that meet her requests. When all else is equal, preference is given to families who have waited a longer period of time.
